Readme: Descriptive data for USN Research Data Archive Dataset generated by [Daniel Abiriga,Live S. Vestgarden & Harald Klempe] ------------------- GENERAL INFORMATION ------------------- TITLE FOR THE DATASET Groundwater chemistry of an aquifer contaminated by landfill leachate INFORMATION ON PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR COLLECTING THE DATA Daniel Abiriga, Harald Klempe University of South-Eastern Norway daniel.abiriga@usn.no, harald.klempe@usn.no DATE(S) OF DATA COLLECTION 1992-2015 GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION(S) OF DATA COLLECTION The contaminated aquifer is located in a glaciofluvial deposit at 59º25'58.26"N (Latitude) and 9º06'1.53"E (Longitude) in a place called Bø i telemark, Norway. The aquifer is contaminated by a municipal solid waste landfill which received waste from 1974 to 1996. LANGUAGE English ---------------- FILE INFORMATION ---------------- Non-proprietary, in '.cvs' format and can be opened in any standard software that can read cvs files. ----------- METHODOLOGY ----------- Grounwater samples were collected from monitoring wells established using Waterloo Groundwater Monitoring System. These wells were placed in an increasing distance from the landfill, denoted as R1, R2 and R4 in the dataset. R1 consists of five levels, R2 with four and R4 with three. Groundwater samples were collected twice a year, one in spring and another in autumn. Note however, that at the inception of the project, groundwater samples were collected four times a year. Samples for PCB and PAH analysis were extracted from the two lowermost levels of the farthermost well. Physical parameters i.e. pH, electrical conductivity and temperature were measured onsite. Dissolved oxygen was fixed onsite and analysed within 24 Hrs. All other parameters were measured from ALcontrol Laboratories, Skien, Norway. The dataset was processed and analysed using Excel and R (https://www.R-project.org/.)
